Abstract

Essential oils (EOs) are widely used in cosmetics for their active and aromatic properties, yet their cytotoxicity remains a concern, especially regarding skin safety. This study aimed to evaluate the cytotoxicity of 32 essential oils on immortalized keratinocytes (HaCaT cells) using an MTS assay. Results demonstrated significant variability in cell viability, with 14 oils reducing viability below 50%. These findings underscore the need for further research into the specific chemical constituents responsible for the observed effects.
